A not so sweet treat

The Kool ‘n’ Frooti in Glendora is a sparkling clean shop, but looks can be deceiving.

Upon walking in the empty store late Wednesday afternoon, I was not greeted by anyone.

In fact I was inside for about 15 minutes with no sign of an employee anywhere.

It wasn’t until I was ready to pay that a young woman wordlessly appeared from out of nowhere and then disappeared again immediately after.

Compared to other places, the eight generic choices of the frozen yogurt were unimpressive. There was green apple, pomegranate, mango, watermelon, blueberry, strawberry, chocolate and cookies and cream.

Four out of the 12 dispensers were out of order. One of the dispensers even sprayed out frozen yogurt onto the floor when I pulled the handle down.

The toppings were not as limited but I gagged at the sight of the strawberries. The old, shriveled berries looked rotten and had a green tint to them. I decided to stick with sprinkles.

I got a watermelon and green apple swirl and topped it with sprinkles.

The watermelon flavor tasted refreshing and sweet whereas the green apple tasted tart. The combination was good, but nothing great.

After weighing my cup it cost about $4, which is typical for frozen yogurt.

However for about the same price, I would rather go to Tutti Frutti, Yogurtland or Pink Berry.

Some of the good things I found about Kool ‘n’ Frooti was that it offers free Wi-Fi and fundraising opportunities for schools, sports teams and other organizations.

There were also suggestion boxes for flavors and toppings, as well as sample cups to test the different flavors.

While this experience may not have been typical, I will not be returning to Kool ‘n’ Frooti any time soon.

The lack of customer service, limited frozen yogurt choices and unappetizing fruit toppings made an unsatisfying experience.

Kool ‘n’ Frooti is located at 1311 S. Grand Avenue, about a 5-minute drive from Citrus. The hours are 11:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. Mon-Sun.
