Measure G funds ongoing campus construction

A $121 million facilities construction bond, which has enabled several upgrades around campus, is now running low.

As of April 30 the District had about $7.7 million of Measure G funds remaining to be spent, Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services Claudette Dain said in an email.

All of the remaining funds are allocated to the renovations and constructions involved with the Educational Development Center (ED building).

Measure G, a series of bonds presented by the Citrus College District to the district community in March 2004, is a result of Proposition 39, the Smaller Classes, Safer Schools and Financial Accountability Act.

Proposition 39 states a school must obtain a two-thirds majority vote from the district community regarding the plans for using the fund.

Also, the money can only be used to repair, renovate, expand and construct new school facilities.

The Ross L. Handy Campus Center is the most recent construction project to make use of the funds.

The campus center is expected to be completed by December, Director of Facilities and Construction Fred Diamond said in an email.

The ED building is the next project slated to begin.

This building has not had a major renovation or remodel in its entire 30-year history, Superintendent/President Geraldine Perri said in an email.

The start date depends on approval by the Division of State Architect, Dain said in an email.

Assuming the project begins in January 2019, the ED Building modernization should be completed by March 2020.

The building will undergo serious changes during the construction.

Plans for the ED building are to gut and build-out to include two wet science laboratories, a science stockroom and some office space, Diamond said.

The electrical, mechanical and plumbing will be upgraded as well.

“The District has had great success with its Measure G bond program and is extremely grateful to our voters that supported the bond,” Dain said.
