Departments on campus prepare for student resource fair

Citrus College will host The Student Resource fair from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 13 and 14 at the Campus Center Mall.

Fourteen departments have RSVP’d for this event, with a few more expected to do so, according to Rosario Garcia, Interim Student Life Supervisor.

“This event is not only for new students, but also for returning students to be aware of what type of resources are available for them on campus,” said Garcia.

Since this is the second semester the fair is being held, Garcia hopes students take the most advantage of services made available to them.

Daniela Ibarra, a Citrus College nursing student, says she knows little of the resources available to her on campus.

“It is my third semester here at Citrus and I honestly feel like I need to be more aware of what is going on, especially when it comes to applying for scholarships and their deadlines, also for tutoring and transfer resources that will help with my nursing career,” said Ibarra.

Ibarra hopes to gain enough information and know where to reach out for help.

For students that have heard of these programs but may not know what is available for them on campus, The Student Resource Fair is a great way for them to take advantage of everything this campus has to offer.

Departments such as DSP&S, the Career and Transfer Center, the Health Center, Financial Aid and many more will be at the event.

Michelle Hernandez, Counselor and Learning Disabilities Specialist, will be at the DSP&S table.

Hernandez will be giving information upon the program servicing students with disabilities as to what documents are needed to apply, information on the programs ‘self advocacy series’ workshops, and what types of academic accommodations they can provide for in-class use.

On the second day of this event, the mobile food pantry will be available from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for students to enjoy. Citrus College hopes to have this event every semester going forward according to Garcia.
