Cosmetology program gets ready for “Heroes and Villains” show

April 29, 2019 <a href="https://www.ccclarion.com/byline/andre-lopez/" rel="tag">Andre Lopez</a>

The Citrus College Cosmetology department is a few days away from their annual spring showcase and competition, themed after “Galactic Heroes and Villains.” Contestants will be judged on three categories, which includes makeup, avant-garde styles and wig/hair. The judges at the event are Citrus College cosmetology program alumni. Students from both the cosmetology and esthetician programs will be a part of the showcase with about 50 to 75 models in the showcase.

“Each category there’s going to be two winners, first and second place and then there will be a best of show which incorporates all those three categories,” said Susan Bautista, a cosmetology professor at Citrus.

The 55 year old program invests in the school and the community, as this showcase serves as a large fundraising event for the Citrus College Foundation.

“This is a big fundraiser event that we do. We donate the money to the Citrus College Foundation,” Bautista said.

“Through the Citrus College Foundation, we are allowed to also use those funds to pay for our end of the year commencement ceremonies that we have at the Haugh or for whatever other needs that the program might want to utilize that money. It allows the students to showcase their work, it allows them to work in teams and collaborate on whatever their peak interest is in terms of this discipline and the money goes to the foundation,  the community comes and watches so it’s a win win for everybody.”

The show will be on April 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the HPAC.
