Citrus counselors create Express Counseling, virtual workshops for students during COVID-19

May 27, 2020May 29, 2020 <a href="https://www.ccclarion.com/byline/stephanie-nicosia/" rel="tag">Stephanie Nicosia</a>

The counseling and advisement center continues to provide counseling appointments for students remotely through phone calls and video conferences. The newest way Citrus counselors accommodate students is by providing Express Counseling through Zoom.

Students can find Express Counseling at the bottom of the Counseling and Advisement Center’s appointment scheduling page on Citrus College’s website.

A Zoom link places students in a virtual waiting room to be assisted based on the order in which they join the session.

The Counseling and Advisement Center’s website said Express Counseling allows students to make appointments regarding the following: clearing prerequisites for registration, general information regarding programs, 3-Peat petitions for students needing approval to attempt a class for a third time, unit increase, registration assistance for students who have completed their Student Education Plan, questions about holds or academic standing, math/english placement questions and requests of print outs of transcripts or Student Educational Plans.

On March 19, EOP&S held a Q & A Zoom session on ConferZoom and live streamed it on their Instagram, @citruscollege_eopsandcare. They answered questions and shared tips on how to manage online classes.

EOP&S also uses its Instagram to keep students informed on food bank drives, online tutoring and provide information on where students can receive free mental health care services.

EOP&S counselor at Citrus College Raul Sanchez says he is proud to be a part of a team that really cares about the students and of all the hard work everyone has produced in the division.

“I must say that a lot of great work has gone into putting together remote services for students during this crisis by the entire Counseling division, including the Counseling & Advisement Center, EOP&S/CARE, CalWORKs, DSP&S, Career/Transfer Center, Student Veteran services, Athletics counseling,” Sanchez said.

Other Citrus counseling services still being provided during remote instruction are: Degree Works, Early Alert Program, probation workshops and remote learning study skills.

The Career Transfer Center accommodates students by hosting virtual resume workshops and Transfer Admission Center workshops. The next workshop is on June 1 and the theme is “Plan Ahead UC Personal Insight Questions”.

The calendar for upcoming virtual workshop events can be found at Career/Transfer Center Workshops and Events  and the registration link for the virtual workshops can be found on the Career Transfer Center’s Instagram, @citruscollege_ctc.

Students can learn more about assistance with these programs by clicking the Counseling Area resources tab on Counseling and Advisement Center’s appointment scheduling page. Students can also schedule an appointment with a counselor regarding transfer inquiries by calling 626-914-8639 or emailing CTC@citruscollege.edu.
