Citrus Sports Roundup: Men’s basketball wins in overtime

Football

Citrus College defeated Orange Coast College in a 38-22 road win on Nov. 4. 

The Owls’ Koy Riggin finished the game with three touchdown passes that were caught by Jesse Carmona, Julian Borrayo and Julian Walker. 

Citrus is now 6-3 for the season and will be on the road to face Long Beach on Nov. 11. 

Men’s Basketball

Citrus College fought hard in its overtime 109-102 home win against MiraCosta on Nov. 7. 

The Owls’ Tyrel Creger led the team with 30 points on 56% shooting. 

MiraCosta nailed a 3-pointer within the last few seconds of the fourth quarter, which sent the game to overtime.

However, the Owls would eventually go on an 11-0 run and seal the deal in overtime. 

Citrus is now 1-1 for the season and will remain home to face Pasadena City on Nov. 10.

Women’s Basketball

Citrus College earned a 63-52 road win against San Diego City on Nov. 9.

The Owls’ Jolleen Olia led the team with 20 points, while also hitting a clutch layup and two free throws that gave Citrus the lead in the fourth quarter.

Citrus is now 2-1 for the season and will be on the road to face El Camino on Nov. 15.

Volleyball

Citrus College defeated Antelope Valley in a 3-0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-22) win on the road.

 The Owls’ Faith Evaro had nine kills, while Tara Biscan and McKenna Cooper had five kills each. 

Citrus is on a three-game win streak and will be on the road to face West LA on Nov. 10. 

Men’s Water Polo

Citrus College finished third in the Western State Conference Tournament after earning a 15-8 win over Ventura.

The Owls’ Colton Vale finished with six goals, while  Killian Pressley and Riley Bagley had three goals to contribute to the victory. 

Citrus men’s water polo season ends with a 14-11 record. 

Women’s Water Polo

Citrus College earned a 17-6 win against Grossmont College in the 2023 3C2A SoCal Regional on Nov. 9. 

The Owls’ Andrea Hayller and Sierra Beltran had five goals each for the game, helping Citrus secure the victory. 

Citrus is now 15-15 for the season and will be at home to face Riverside as they advance in the regionals on Nov. 10. 

Men’s Soccer

Citrus College ended the season with a 3-1 loss against LA Pierce on Nov. 9.

LA Pierce’s Isaac Gonzalez, Gilberto Chavez and Santana Sakai had a goal each to contribute to the victory. 

The Owls’ Takechika Ito scored the only goal for the team.

Citrus finished the season with a 9-9-3 record. 

Women’s Soccer

Citrus College ended the season with a 2-0 road victory against Antelope Valley on Nov. 9.

The Owls’ Jayme Betty scored both goals of the game while being assisted by Lucy Bower and Emily Cherry.

Citrus finished with a 10-5-5 record for the season. 

Women’s Golf

Citrus College had three Owls compete at the 3C2A SoCal Regional on Nov. 6. 

Isabelle Olivas-Lowell led the Owls with a total of 144 (72-72) for two rounds, while Makenzey de Ridder finished with 231 (121-110) and Cora Averweg finished with 247 (128-119).

Olivas-Lowell will compete in the 3C2A State Championship on Nov. 13 at the Hunter Ranch Golf Course in Paso Robles.
