The Owl Bookstore hosted its first Annual Grad Fair on May 6 and 7 at Citrus College.
A sign reading “Grad Sale, 15% Off” with colorful balloons greeted students outside of the Owl Bookstore.
This event offered graduating students special discounts and opportunities to see graduation caps, gowns and regalia in-person.
Some of the other special offerings include discounts on bundles of cap and gowns, tassels, 15% off emblematic clothing, gifts, raffles and games.
Jasmine Bryant, the manager of the Owl Bookstore, said the Grad Fair gives students a chance to see the items in person before buying. Students can take time to consider different options, even if they are not ready to make the purchase right now.
“We (Owl Bookstore) are trying to get more involved on the campus and trying to get the students more involved as everything moves to digital,” Bryant said. “It also allows the bookstore to show the school that we want to help the students out.”
The Owl Bookstore is a resource that is open to students throughout the year.
“We are here the whole year if you have any other questions, we can always help you out,“ Ivan Arteaga, the team lead at the Owl Bookstore, said.
The Owl Bookstore is not just a place to purchase textbooks. Arteaga said that students often comment that they like having food available at the bookstore.
“A lot of the students love that we sell food here,” Arteaga said. “Just because there doesn’t tend to be a lot of other options on campus.”
Arteaga said that he hopes that the Annual Owl Bookstore Grad Fair will continue as long as the bookstore is around because it gives a chance to check out all the clothing and add-ons that are available to graduating Citrus students.
“We still want the students to be able to stop in and know that there are other benefits,” Bryant said. “Mainly, students can use financial aid in the bookstore that they can’t obviously use if they buy their books third-party.”
Bryant said that there are campus programs that offer funding for caps and gowns, and the Owl Bookstore can help students connect to those resources that are available.
Students with questions on how to use financial aid to purchase textbooks for courses or who want more information on available funds for caps and gowns can stop into the Owl Bookstore which is located across the Campus Center in the BK building.
The Owl Bookstore operational hours are between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m on Fridays. Students can also email at the bookstore at citruscollege@bkstr.com.
