The newest issue of Logos Magazine dropped, May 28. Staff members Alexa Tapia and Amora Guzman worked together to create it, along with contributions from Blanca Carrasco Arroyo, Angelina Oliva and Sophia Hernandez.
The highlighted story of this issue is rave culture. There is an article about “PLUR” which stands for peace, love, unity and respect. Blanca and Alexa had gone to “PLUR in the park,” an event hosted in Claremont where local ravers in the community got together to make kandi and form stronger bonds.
Another article is about a recreational drug, poppers, and how Robert F. Kennedy’s claim of it causing AIDS is totally unfounded. The article explores why he’s incorrect.
Other articles included discussion of trans rights, ramen reviews and hiking trails around the Glendora community.
The Logos crew held a launch party yesterday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The staff and contributors were giving out the magazine and some smaller stuff they had made, like a limited edition zine.
A tent was set up in Citrus’ Campus Center Mall. They had decorated the tables with little clowns that staff member Tapia brought from home, and some squishmellows.
They made around 100 kandi bracelets and had a station behind the tent where people could make their own.
They were also giving out zines. One shows people how to share kandi bracelets and to explain the meaning of PLUR. The zine also folds apart to create a poster. The other has information and resources about HIV/AIDS.
Students would drop by regularly to see what was going on and pick up a magazine and goodies or freebies.
Citrus College student Michelle Cristi hung out for a while and made some kandi.
“The kandi making was so fun and the music really completed the vibes,” she said.
Leslie Pinto, a journalism major and a freelancer for Citrus’ student publication, also came to see what the Logos team put together.
“Seeing the hardwork and dedication pay off for such an inclusive magazine makes me happy to be part of this environment,” she said.
Logos contributor, Carrasco, personally did a live DJ set for the launch party to replicate the vibe of a rave. People came by bumping their heads, dancing to the mix.
The magazine will be distributed throughout Citrus College on May 29 on the newsstands throughout campus.
