Baseball season recap

The Citrus College baseball season was a roller coaster.

The team started slow, but found a groove in the middle of the season.

“Overall we finished 22-18, but I think to be honest with you, we did a lot of underachieving at the end of the season,” Citrus head coach Steve Gomez said. “I would honestly say if anything we can take away from this season is we were consistent across the board with our offense and defense” Gomez said.

With everything that the baseball team had to deal with over the course of the whole season, with injuries but the team stuck together.

The Owls had plenty of offense throughout the year. One of the main offensive people for the Owls was third basemen Kristian Scott.

“This year’s team was one of the most talented teams in our conference, and everyone we had could really contribute and really hit the ball, but at the end of the day we fell short in conference,” Scott said.

The Owls had many key players in the pitching rotation this year, including Sir Gomez.

Citrus’ ace pitcher had an earned run average of 3.64 and 94 strikeouts on the year.

Gomez was a key factor as the team competed throughout the season and conference play.

“We did fall short, but in the end throughout everything we faced and everything that happened over the year we had an overall good time during the season,” Sir Gomez said.

This season the Owls really shined in both offense and defense at times. There season just came up short in the last six games by going three and three. In order to make the playoffs the Owls needed to be in second place in the Western State Conference.
