Campus question: Which issues should the Clarion cover?

The question: Which issues should the Clarion cover?

As another semester concludes at Citrus College reporters at the Clarion would like to know how they might improve their coverage in semesters to come. If there are issues that you think should receive more attention please contact the Clarion or type your ideas in the comment section at the bottom of this post.

Samuel Saidi, 27 years old, accounting major.

“I think the clubs. I think it’s very important for students to be involved. I think the school doesn’t have any spirit. There’s no school spirit here. Yes, we come here for two years to learn, but we also need to have an even break. A collaboration where we have school spirit and we’re still studying. We have no balance here. A lot of people do fail because, I think it’s scientifically proven that if you’re not involved within the school or doing some part of school that your grade is actually less. So here, we’re so focused on school that we’re lacking that unity. We’re lacking for students to know each other.”

Lyrissa Tuyin, 26, visual arts and studio arts major.

“I’ve actually never read (the Clarion) or don’t even know where to pick it up at. So, I think having people come onto campus and allowing them, I feel, is a safety issue. I know it’s like freedom of speech or something like that, but there’s people soliciting on campus and I don’t think they should be allowed to do that. I feel like it’s a safety issue with all these campus shootings. We shouldn’t have people protesting and yelling with signs saying, you’re going to hell. Because I have seen that.”

Brian Espinoza, 18 years old, criminal justice major.

“Probably just more things I’m interested in. So, like sports or anything like that. If I saw like one of my favorite teams on the cover or any page, I’d probably pick it up right away. Or anything that interests people.”

Lydia Romero, 19 years old, psychology major.

“The only issues I have regarding the DSPS office. I just feel the person who is in charge of getting all the books and supplies ready for all the students, he lags on it.”

Vice President of ASCC Makayla Pedroza, 22 years old, psychology major.

“I wouldn’t say anything that needs to be covered, but maybe having one or two stories next semester discussing trans individuals on campus. Because we don’t really hear about trans individuals.”

Myra Mixco, 38 years old, biology major.

“In my personal opinion, I think there are two. For example, the signs that say, ‘no smoking.’ A lot of people gather around those signs smoking. I would like to see security or whoever pay more attention to that. I’m asthmatic and I have had a couple of attacks just because of the smoke. The other issue is child care or single parents. It doesn’t matter. Just child care, because it’s really difficult.”
