Mental health during COVID-19 pandemic

Maintaining good mental-health during the COVID-19 pandemic is important when dealing with new challenges that can negatively affect it.  

While being at home during the indefinite future, check out these helpful tips to keep your mental health on track.

The first of many ways to maintain good mental health during COVID-19 is to follow the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines for coping with a disaster, an email from Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano to the citizens of the 32nd district of California said on April 3.

The guidelines include taking care of your body, connecting with others, taking breaks, avoiding too much exposure to the news and seeking help when needed. 

An article on amnesty.org, provides tips to help deal with the emotions people feel while being secluded at home. The website said they encourage citizens to show solidarity and care for others, such as providing emotional support via phone calls or messages.

A good way to keep mental health strong is to learn how to deal with stress. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many citizens a great deal of stress due to the change in their way of living. 

Practicing good stress-coping skills is a big focus in an article from ups.umich.edu “Ten things You Can Do for Your Mental Health.” 

The article said experimenting with exercises such as tension release, deep breathing, focused breathing and ideal relaxation are great stress reducers to help ease the current transition.

Technology can also be a helpful resource in maintaining good mental health during this pandemic by trying out new activities at home. 

An article from Bucketlisters.com recommends trying a virtual tour of 2,500 different museums, including Los Angeles’s own Getty Museum, Natural History Museum and Museum of Contemporary Art.

New challenges will continue to arise during the COVID-19 pandemic,  which will impact people’s mental-health. It is important people are educated about mental-health to keep themselves healthy while being confined at home.
