Creative, trending activities to do during quarantine amid COVID-19 pandemic

California is entering the third month of staying indoors, since Governor Gavin Newsom’s “Stay at Home” order on March 19 to protect the health and the well-being of all Californians to prevent the spread of the virus, COVID-19.

“This isn’t the first time a health disease like this has happened to the world but it is the first time since 2009 when the Swine Flu began in North America,” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

The Swine Flu originated in Mexico and killed from 151,700 to 545,400 people before it spread to the rest of the world, affecting primarily younger people.

More recently, the World’s Health Organization said on their website before COVID-19, was the West African Ebola in 2014 which ravaged West Africa with 28,680 reported cases and 11,325 deaths.

The Ebola virus first started in Guinea, Africa, then smaller cases followed in Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, USA and Europe, the Center of Disease Control and Prevention said.

The coronavirus now has people working from home but they can still do great things.

“In 1695, Isaac Newton discovered gravity and is now credited as one of the world’s greatest minds of the 17th-century during the Scientific Revolution. Newton had to work from home when the University of Cambridge temporarily closed due to the Bubonic Plague,” an article from www.biography.com said.

Instagram influencers are also motivating people staying at home to stay productive.

“Like most individuals now staying at home, it was the most productive period of his life and he used that time to develop his theories in calculus, optics and gravity,” an Instagram post by @alpha_leaders said.

As the world adjusts to this new living style it seems like almost everyone finds a new joy everyday.

During this quarantine, many people are listening to music because it’s a way people can stay calm through this entire crisis.

An article on www.thenextweb.com said “A new playlist was created on Spotify, ‘CoronaVirus Quarantine Party’ and ‘Quarentunes’.”

Artists are also releasing new music during quarantine like Puerto Rican urban singer-rapper Bad Bunny’s song “Yo Perreo Sola” which has accumulated more than 110 million YouTube views.

Statistics on www.oberlo.com said TikTok is being used by 800 million people worldwide to spend time with friends and family.

Many people are bored, so why not try a virtual challenge?

Most social media users are creating fun challenges and posting them on their Instagram stories. For example, the toilet challenge, which is a toilet paper roll being juggled, mainly done by famous soccer players and amateurs.

People on social media have also been doing the “See 10 do 10 Pushups challenge” for gym rats or “The Pillow Challenge,” which has people using their own blankets and pillows to create an outfit.

A lot of productive and virtual activities have been occurring for people in California because of recent park, beach and hiking trail closures.

A fun activity college students are enjoying is going on Skype calls and FaceTime chats for “Wine down Wednesday,” consisting of friends chatting and “winding down” with any alcohol choice.

Instagram influencer Itzy Canales recently had her third week of virtual “happy hour” during quarantine in Los Angeles where she shares tips for working at home, how to prioritize mental health, her favorite Trader Joe’s items and worthy TV shows to watch.

People can choose from many activities, especially since people don’t have any specific date on when things will go back to normal.

People may now have lots of time to spare; it’s time to create an activity on social media outlets like what has been created by imaginative people from the past.
