Citrus sports roundup: Football continues its undefeated streak

Citrus College continues to dominate, adding to its undefeated streak with a 16-7 win over Mt. San Jacinto on Sept. 9. 

The running game worked for the Owls, as they had 231 rushing yards, 77 coming from Tayvonne Miller, who also had two touchdowns. Koy Riggin also went 15-of-21 and piled up 159 passing yards. 

Citrus will face Grossmont on Sept. 16 and try to add another win to its 2-0 record.

 

Cross Country

Citrus College attended the Oxnard Invitational on Sept. 8 and had Ryleigh Larue Place 16th  with a time of 20:14:9. 

Geo Cabello led the men at 23:56.4, passing the Oxnard in placements.

The Owls will compete at the SoCal Regional Preview on Sept. 15. 

 

Men’s Soccer

Citrus College used its home-field advantage to beat Imperial Valley College 2-0 on Sept.12.

Isaac Ochoa and Eduardo Marquez each scored a goal, solidifying a win for the Owls.

Citrus will look to carry the momentum onto the game against Compton on Sept. 15. 

 

Women’s Soccer

Citrus College went on the road against Pasadena City College on Sept.12, which resulted in a 3-0 loss for the Owls. 

The Owls battled hard and had 12 shot attempts, but it still was not enough to beat Pasadena’s three made goals.

Megan Schmidt, Charlie Gallardo and Michelle Navarro each had a goal that contributed to the win over the Owls.

Citrus College looks to bounce back on the road against Norco on Sept. 19.

 

Men’s Water Polo

Citrus College snatched a win from CalTech on Sept.7 in a 13-10 victory, bumping them up to a 5-3 record.

Riley Bagley had five goals and four assists, while Colton Vale also had four goals. 

Killian Pressley, Devon Dow, John Wilson and Thomas Gibson also had a goal each to contribute to the win.

Citrus will be at home, competing against El Camino on Sept. 22. 

 

Women’s Water Polo

Citrus College fell short in the OCC Tournament on Sept. 9, with a 10-4 loss to Orange Coast College and an 18-6 loss to Riverside City College. 

Despite the defeats, Destiny Latham garnered three goals and three steals from the two games.

The Owls are now 1-3 for the season but look forward to bouncing back against Santa Barbara on Sept. 15 at the Riverside City College Tournament. 

 

Volleyball

Citrus College attended the LAM Third Eagle Invitational on Sept. 13 and suffered a 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-23) loss against LA Mission and a 3-2 (26-24, 23-25, 26-28, 25-23, 15-11) loss against Fullerton. 

Despite the defeats, the Owls fought hard with Faith Evaro’s 24 kills and McKenna Cooper’s 15 kills over the two games. 

Citrus, now 1-9 for the season, will look to improve against Cuesta on Sept. 15. 

 

Women’s Golf

Citrus College finished with a score of 436 in the second Western State Conference event on Sept. 11 at Santa Barbara City GC.

Isabelle Olivias-Lowell ended up with a score of 68, which is the lowest score for Citrus since 2015.

Citrus looks forward to continuing its improvements when they compete in the third WSC on Sept.18 at Sterling Hills GC.
