The Citrus College Architecture Club is preparing students for the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Conference on Architecture, scheduled for June 10–13 in San Diego, offering members a chance to connect with industry professionals and explore career opportunities.
Club adviser Tommy Reyes said the conference gives students exposure to the architecture field beyond the classroom, including networking opportunities and access to emerging industry technologies.
Reyes said events like the conference help students better understand what careers in architecture can look like in practice.
Executive club member Manuel Zepeda said the club focuses on introducing students to different areas of architecture while helping them build confidence in professional environments.
“This club tries to expose students to what it’s really like in the field and all the different types of architecture around the world,” Zepeda said.
Executive member Katelin Francis said the club has helped her become more comfortable with networking.
“I learned not to be afraid of networking and not to be afraid to meet new people,” Francis said.
Members said the club regularly discusses networking opportunities and professional experiences.
Club member Emma De La Cruz said learning about the upcoming conference during a meeting made her interested in attending.
“I think helping people goes a long way, and you make connections,” De La Cruz said. “People are willing to share ideas with you.”
The conference will bring together architecture professionals, students and educators from across the country for workshops, presentations and networking events.
