College ranked No.1 in magazine associate degree producers list

Citrus College is  No.1 in the country for producing degrees for minority students.

Citrus College placed first of two-year community colleges in the nation for the number of associate degrees awarded in English language and literature/letters to minority students.

Diverse Magazine, the nation’s leading source of critical news and information on problems concerning diversity in American higher education, released a “Top 100 Associate Degree Producers” edition using data collected from the Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System on March 5.

Citrus is among the top 100 associate degree producers for Hispanics, Asian-American and African-American students in 68 different categories. Group-specific rankings include being ranked first in the nation for awarding associate degrees in English language and literature/letters to Hispanic students, second for awarding associate degrees in English language and literature/letters to Asian-American students, and fifth for awarding associate degrees in English language and literature/letters to African-American students.

Superintendent/President Geraldine M. Perri is confident Citrus will continue to be successful and believes this accomplishment is a reflection of the students at Citrus College.

“This recognition is truly a validation of the outstanding students who attend Citrus College…” Perri said,  “I am confident that we will continue to champion this commitment into the future for generations to come.”

Kenneth Sampay, a second-year Urban Studies and City planning major at Citrus College, believes the ethnically diverse student body of the school has provided him the confidence to be involved in the classroom and a sense of belonging on campus.

”It’s easier for me to participate in class because I don’t feel alone and also…It makes me feel like I belong,” Sampay said.
