ASCC president welcomes students to campus in letter to the Clarion

Greetings! Citrus College Community!

Welcome to Citrus College! I am Brian Tong and I am honored to serve as the President of the ASCC (Associated Students of Citrus College) for the upcoming year. As we set sail towards a new semester, I, and the board of trustees, are excited to embark this journey with you. Together, we build this supportive and inclusive environment, and elevate our experiences to new heights.

Citrus College is more than an institution; it is a community that fosters growth, nurtures ambitions, and cultivates success. Our campus is distinguished not only by its caring staff but also by an array of invaluable resources. These range from the Career and Counseling Center to the Learning Center, the Honors Program, and the Foster and Kinship Care Education and RFA Programs. These resources form the bedrock of our supportive environment, and let us take advantage to enrich ourselves with these resources.

Yet, it’s crucial to remember that the true heart and soul of Citrus College lies within each of you – the students. Your diverse talents, backgrounds, and perspectives are what make our academic community vibrant and flourishing. As we step into this semester, let us seize the opportunity to connect, learn, and grow together. With open minds and open hearts, we can build an inclusive community that thrives on our differences and celebrates our shared commitment to knowledge and personal development.

Your voices are integral to our shared journey! Your feedback on the student government’s initiatives and events is not just welcomed—it’s essential. Your input shapes the decisions that impact our college experience, ensuring that our collective voice guides our path forward. We are here to serve as your advocates, working tirelessly to make your time at Citrus College truly exceptional.

As we set our sights on the semester ahead, let us also remember the importance of balance. While academic pursuits are central to our lives, it is equally crucial to engage in extracurricular activities that nurture our passions, develop our skills, and foster a sense of belonging. At Citrus, we have over 15 clubs and societies designed to help you find your interest and create lasting memories outside classroom. Find your like-minded peers and make your college experience unforgettable!

Lastly, challenges are an inevitable part of any academic journey. However, it is through these challenges that we grow, learn, and become stronger individuals. Always remember, you need not face these challenges alone. We are here to help and assist you! Do not hesitate to reach out to ASCC or visit the Student Wellness Center to speak your difficulty whenever you feel pressurized or need support. We stand ready to lend a helping hand.

Once again, welcome to a new year of excellence at Citrus College. I cannot wait to see the incredible achievements and growth that we will accomplish together.

Go Owls!

With sincere anticipation,

Brian Tong

* In fact, along with Dr. Miller-Thayer and a group of motivated students, we are creating a student handbook that covers a comprehensive view of resources and programs at Citrus College.
