Citrus Owls: Sports Preview

Volleyball

Citrus College faced off with Orange Coast College on its home court, in which the Owls lost 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-23).

Despite the nine kills from Sabrina Evangelista, 30 assists from Vanessa Marquez and the 10 digs from Mychaela Ortiz, it was still not enough to put the Pirates down. 

Citrus hopes to bounce back on the road on Sept.8 against Ventura, with their next road game happening on Sept. 13 against LA Mission College. 

 

Men’s Water Polo

Citrus College’s Water Polo team finished 2-2 in the Merced North vs. South tournament.

The two victories came from a 22-10 win over Diablo Valley and one against host Merced which finished 22-9. 

The Owls also had a loss against American River that finished 12-11 and the other coming from Mt. SAC that had finished 21-9. 

Throughout the four games, Riley Bagley had 15 goals, while Colton Vale had 12 and Killian Pressley picked up nine as well. 

The Owls will be in the Labor Day Tournament on Sept. 2 at Southwestern College. 

 

Men’s Soccer

Citrus College men’s soccer captured their first win of the season, which resulted in a 5-1 victory against Cypress.

Issac Ochoa managed to score the first goal in the sixth minute of the game. Although Cypress tied the game, the Owls managed to gain the lead just four minutes later and maintain the momentum. 

Citrus is looking to add another win to their 1-1 record against Southwestern College on Sept.5. 

 

Women’s Golf

The Citrus College women’s golf team started off the season at home, while placing fourth with a score of 459 out of seven teams. College of the Canyons ended up winning the event with 334. 

Isabelle Olivas-Lowell had 77 for the day, which was the second-best out of everyone. 

Motoko Shimoji finished with a 74, helping the Cougars secure the top spot. 

The Owls will play again and are looking to take first place on Sept. 11 on the Santa Barbara City Golf Course. 

 

Women’s Soccer

The Citrus College women’s soccer team fell to the Moorpark Raiders on Aug.26 with a score of 1-0.

Maddy Moris is now seventh all-time in saves for Citrus College, as she finished the game with 11. 

Makaelyn Towns scored the goal for the Raiders, winning their season opener while handing the Owls their first loss. 

The Owls will look to use their home advantage to secure a win on Sept. 5 against Grossmont College.
