New order set for Measure Y bond projects

The projects set to be funded by the $298 million Measure Y bond make little progress since the measure’s approval in November 2020.

The first building currently planned for construction on Citrus College’s campus is the new STEM building.

“There is no timeline for construction yet as no contract has been issued for design/construction,” Fred Diamond, director of facilities and construction facilities, maintenance, construction, said in an email.

“All the administrative procedures must be finished first, which is statute driven.”

With the completion of the STEM building five buildings will follow. They include the Career, Technical and Education building; the Classroom building; the Student Union, Information Services, and dining building; the Library; and the Kinesiology building.

The update in sequencing was changed in association with the economy Diamond said.

The 2020-2030 Educational and Facilities Master Plan stated the STEM building will replace the Life Science building, Lecture Hall building, and Physical Science building.

Diamond said that the “budgeting process has not been finalized yet” and the current figures are only preliminary.

The new CTE building will take the place of the Professional Center building, Technology Center building, the Diesel Technology 1 and 2 buildings and the Automotive Annex building.

The Liberal Art/Business building will be replaced by the Classroom building, while a new Student Union and dining hall is set to replace the Owl Bookshop and the Information Services building.

The Learning Resource Center will replace the Hayden Memorial Library. The campus’ Adaptive Physical Education building, Aquatics building and Physical Education building are planned to be replaced by the Kinesiology building.

Beside the 16 buildings being removed in favor of new ones, all three portable buildings, the North and South Bunglows, the Life Long Learning building and the Earth Science building are also planned for removal in the Educational and Facilities Master Plan.
