Citrus College (0-3) takes another loss at home against San Diego Mesa (3-0), still remaining without a win after back to back home games.
The first half was where the Fighting Owls scored the majority of their points in the game. After quickly going down 21-0 in the first quarter, Citrus got their first points on the board with quarterback Connor Underhill throwing a 33 yard touchdown pass to receiver Lorenza Simmons.
Underhill then went down due to an injury for most of the second quarter, leaving freshman quarterback Noah Sandoval as the starter. Sandoval got to work, breaking free with an open lane to rush for a 78 yard touchdown.
Underhill then returned looking fine and got a rushing touchdown of his own. Although Citrus had a good second quarter, matching San Diego Mesa for three touchdowns apiece, that left the score at 42-21.
In the second half, it was an uphill battle that Citrus just could not conquer. Only scoring one touchdown in the remaining two quarters, the Owls fought hard in the rest of the game and still gave it their all. Ultimately, it wasn’t enough, and the game ended in a 68-28 loss.
Citrus still looks to gain their first win, this time on the road versus Mt. SAC at 6 p.m. Sept. 19 at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
