Financial aid department hosts hands-on workshops

The financial aid department hosts three small hands-on virtual workshops to help those in need of completing applications.

The workshops take place on Nov. 1, Dec. 1, and Feb. 1 2023, the cash for college workshop webpage said.

Any student that is looking for help with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or California Dream Act Application is welcome to attend, the website said.

New students filling out an application need to create their FSA Id, or CSAC username, Stephen Fahey, director of financial aid at Citrus, said in an email.

“The workshops are designed to assist students with actually completing a financial aid application and are developed to be hands-on,” Fahey said in the email.

Fahey said the entire financial aid department participates in these events and is ready to assist any student that needs help filling out their application.

The cash for college workshop said students should be ready to bring these items the day of the event:

  • FSA ID
  • Student/parent 2021 income tax returns (1040s) and W-2’s
  • Driver’s license
  • Social security card
  • Alien registration card
  • Individual taxpayer identification number
  • List of colleges you are interested in attending
  • Most current bank statements
  • Any records of untaxed income, pensions, disability benefits, IRS contributions, veterans’ benefits and child support payments received or paid

“These events are not a waste of time,” Fahey said in an email. “Show up, get help. No fancy presentations or long events that students will have to sit through. Leave with a completed application.”
