Students practice earthquake safety drill in great shakeout

The great shakeout is a yearly, international one-minute drill to prepare people on how to respond during a real earthquake. It happens every third Thursday of October.

“Drop,” “cover” and “hold’’ according to Shakeout.org is the safest way to protect oneself during an earthquake.

At Citrus, the earthquake alarm sounded at 10:19 a.m. Instructions were radioed for students, faculty and staff to drop, cover and hold for 60 seconds.

After that, students were instructed to file out to an emergency safety zone.

Emergency information officers with radios and high visibility clothing were seen walking around as they cleared different areas of the campus.

Ten emergency safety zones exist at Citrus.
