Owl’s baseball field turns turf

After decades of grass the Citrus College baseball field is almost done with its transition to turf.

The installation began this past August and is expected to be completed by the end of this month, said Fred Diamond, director of facilities and construction facilities, maintenance, construction.

The contractors employed for the project, KYS Services, also installed the football field turf, said Diamond.

Diamond said the field will consist of artificial turf outfields and synthetic infield dirt, except for the batter’s box and pitchers mound which will be a natural clay and sand mixture.

The administrative work for the replacement began two months prior to its construction in June, explained Diamond.

Claudette Dain, vice president of finance and administrative services, said the contract for the project, which totaled $1,779,946.83, was approved by Citrus’s Board of Trustees.

The baseball coach did not reply to multiple attempts to call and email him for a comment.
