40 minutes of fun: Owls win 15th game in a row by beating Glendale

Summarizing the Citrus College men’s playing style in a phrase would be 40 minutes of fun.

The Owls are on a 15-game winning streak and an overall record of 20-1, with a 7-0 conference record and are undefeated at home with a 12-0 record. They beat Glendale College 115-83 on Jan. 28 with balanced scoring, strong rebounding, and unselfish ball movement. They had a full-court press on every dead ball all 40 minutes, which was difficult for Glendale to handle and resulted in 26 turnovers.

Forward Rockwell Reynolds had a huge impact on the inside, having 24 points and battling on the glass and getting 12 rebounds, as well as protecting the rim and having six blocks.

Leo Ricketts added 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting, with seven assists and three steals. He did all of this with Glendale focusing their defense on him, and at times double teaming him.

“The game was really fun once we shared the ball more, and started looking for each other,” Ricketts said. “We did really well and have all season. Playing like us is really fun to be a part of, and it’s fun to see others succeed just as much yourself.”

Amiri Meadows had 10 points with seven assists, and he was a key part of keeping the ball moving and getting everyone involved.

“As a collective, we all started to put the pieces together,” Meadows said. “Once we get going it’s a contagious energy, and we keep going from there.”

Head coach Brett Lauer pointed to the team’s chemistry as a key factor in the win.

“I thought it was a really unselfish performance,” Lauer said. “We really shared the ball, we made plays for each other and had a lot of fun out there.”

The Owls return to the court at 1 p.m. Jan. 31 against LA Valley College and look to extend their winning streak and protect their home court.
