Three Citrus College counselors encouraged students to use campus resources, meet with counselors regularly and stay informed throughout the transfer process to reduce stress and avoid delays.
Counselors Eileen Sin, Alicia Longyear and Vanessa Juarez said Citrus offers several services designed to help students stay on track with transfer requirements, complete applications and connect with university representatives.
Longyear suggests that students use the Transfer Center to stay informed about transfer opportunities and events.
“The Transfer Center has workshops,” Longyear said. “You can meet with university representatives, and students should look at the Transfer Center website, where they have a lot of information on transfer fairs and when universities come to Citrus and visit our school.”
The counselors also emphasized the importance of students meeting with a counselor at least once each semester to avoid delays in the transfer process.
“I would encourage students to keep in touch with a counselor once a semester,” Sin said. “We do have students who don’t check in with us as often, and when they apply for transfer, they might be short on units. For example, if a student had 59 units instead of 60, they are not meeting transfer requirements. So it’s very important to keep in touch with us counselors.”
In addition to counseling appointments, students can receive help through workshops and online services that guide them through transfer applications and requirements.
“We help students during the application process, where they start the application, but if they need clarification or need someone to look over their application, we’re there to answer questions and provide services,” Juarez said. “Those can happen in person at the Career and Transfer Center or online workshops as well.”
The counselors also encouraged students to stay connected through the Career/Transfer Center website and the Transfer Center’s Instagram account, @citruscollege_ctc, which shares transfer updates, deadlines and workshop information throughout the semester.
