As the fall semester begins, so does the programming at the Haugh Performing Arts Center. The Haugh Center’s fall calendar offers an array of concerts, theatre productions and more at Citrus College.
Though the Haugh Center’s first event, “So Good! The Neil Diamond Experience,” has already passed, there are plenty of other shows to see this fall.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 22, the opening reception for “On a Shoestring: Selections from the Enrique Serrato Collection” is being held in the Citrus Art Gallery at the Visual Arts Building , Room 120. The exhibition showcases the works in late art collector Enrique Serrato’s collection.
From 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Sept. 29, there is a “Chicano Art and the Enrique Serrato Collection Speaker Program” being held in VA 130. Art historian Lori Rusch and ceramics artist and Citrus alum Rey Mora will discuss the role of art collectors in the community.
From 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 4, “Anything for Salinas” is performing at the Haugh Center. Anything for Salinas is “a high energy tribute band dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Queen of Tejano music, Selena Quintanilla,” according to the Haugh Center’s website. Tickets range from $23 to $45.
From 2:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 7, the film “Carlos Almaraz: Playing with Fire” is screening in VA 130. The documentary follows the life of artist Carlos Almaraz who “helped bring greater visibility to Chicano art in the 1970s,” according to the Haugh Center’s website.
From 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 9, “Unity In Song: Reflections of America” is performing at the Haugh Center. Choirs such as Xenith A Cappella, Speakeasy, Treble Chorus and CSArts Vocal Jazz Ensemble will be performing music. Tickets range from $10 to $20.
Beginning the same day and running from Oct. 9–11 and from Oct. 16–18 is “Dog Sees God (Revised Edition)” at the Little Theatre. The play, which contains mature themes and language, “reimagines” the characters from Charles Schultz’s Peanuts comics, according to the Haugh Center’s website. Tickets range from $15 to $25.
From 2:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 14, “Short Films About Chicano Art” screens in VA 130. The films screened will focus on art collectors Enrique Serrato and Cheech Marin and the works in their collections.
Running from Oct. 23-25 and Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 is “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” at the Haugh Center. This musical follows a barber who sets out to “seek revenge on the corrupt judge who ruined his life,” according to the Haugh Center’s website. Tickets range from $18 to $35.
From 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 6, “An Evening of Music From Film: The Music of Action Heroes” is being performed at the Haugh Center. The Citrus Wind Symphony will be playing music from action films along with “video projections,” according to the Haugh Center’s website. Tickets range from $13 to $25.
From 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 10, “Blue Note Jazz Orchestra” is performing at the Haugh Center. The performance “features outstanding student musicians, faculty performers, and internationally recognized guest artists in an evening of contemporary large ensemble jazz,” according to the Haugh Center’s website. Tickets range from $18 to $35.
From 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 14, “REZA: Edge of Illusion” is performing at the Haugh Center. REZA performs magic shows “blending state-of-the-art production, sharp comedic timing, and countless moments of audience interaction,” according to the Haugh Center’s website. Tickets range from $23 to $45.
Running from Dec. 4–6 is “A Holiday Show for the Young and Young at Heart” at the Little Theatre. As stated on the Haugh Center’s website, the show includes multiple small plays inspired by ideas from actual children. Tickets range from $15 to $20.
Running from Dec. 5-6 and Dec. 11-13 is “The Citrus College Annual Holiday Spectacular Christmas Is…” at the Haugh Center. The show includes Christmas-themed songs and dances. Tickets range from $18 to $35.
Concluding the Haugh Center’s fall semester programming from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 12 is “An Evening of Scenes and Monologues” at the Little Theatre. Scenes and monologues will be performed by Citrus’ advanced acting students. Tickets are $10.
